Live in first person the experience of being a simultaneous interpreter of the European Commission, in a real conference room in the heart of the Berlaymont building!
We are preparing discussions and round tables and you are welcome to just listen or to participate and let your voice be heard. Or, of course, to try to interpret.
But we want to also show you how professional conference interpreters work. Our team will interpret into French, Dutch, German and English (and maybe more) so you can take part in the debates without having to worry about the language you speak.
There will be debates and presentations in the Schuman Room all day, on themes regarding the current top priorities in the European Commission.
We have invited speakers on several different topics (detailed program of speakers in the link below).
If you are just curious, or if you are interested in becoming a conference interpreter or in working for the European Institutions as a linguist, here is your chance to meet dozens of professional interpreters and to ask them questions. We look forward to seeing you!
If you don't have the chance to exercise your interpreting skills during the Open Day 2016, no worries! You can also give it a try at DG Interpretation's Speech Repository (https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/sr/).
The European Commission is the EU's politically independent executive arm. It is alone responsible for drawing up proposals for new European legislation, and it implements the decisions of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.More
