Europe is therefore committed to ensuring food security, food quality and food safety for EU citizens... from farm to fork! This is possible thanks to European policies supporting sustainable farming, quality products, rural development, fisheries and fish farming, food safety and traceability, animal health and welfare as well as antimicrobial resistance. These policies also contribute significantly to generating jobs and growth along the food production chain. The agri-food industries represent today 44 million jobs and 6% of the EU's GDP.
At the EU Open Day, the Directorate Generals for Agriculture & Rural Development, Health & Food Safety and Maritime Affairs & Fisheries will present a common stand under the theme "From farm to fork, healthy food for our future". Through entertaining animations and an information desk, visitors will discover the added value of the EU in ensuring enough safe and quality food to all EU citizens. Join us in front of the Berlaymont and take part in our fun and varied activities: take a picture at our photo booth, stop at our interactive touch screen games, taste some nice organic products, discover European aquaculture but also the importance of antimicrobial resistance and how to fight food waste... and much more!
