Europe Day was commemorated through a series of events, in the UAE. The events were educational, cultural and sports related.
The activities started with running an EU stall at the Abu Dhabi Book Fair to create awareness about the EU and its mandate in the UAE. The book fair attracted more than 270,000 visitors. Visitors of the EU stall included Emirati journalists, businessmen, diplomats, artists, entrepreneurs and students of different ages. Various publications about different topics were available for people to take.
The second event was a concert by four European musicians who joined and formed a band especially for Europe Day. A reception followed the concert.
An opera recital was held under the patronage of the UAE's Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development. Soprano Iwona Socha and pianist Joanna Steczek flew in from Cracow for this recital. The recital was attended by 300 people including Emiratis from the Emirati Federal National Council, Emirati educational institutions & diplomats from around the world.
The Head of the EU Delegation gave a presentation about the EU to the students of New York University in Abu Dhabi.
The fifth event in celebration of Europe Day was a friendly football game between Emirati officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and EU diplomats accredited to the country. Assistant Undersecretary of Support Services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended as a guest of honour.
